Race #16, September 27th:
Blackard 5th, in the Sixteenth (and final)
Race of the Season!
Eric Blackard and the team had a good day this Saturday at
Colorado National Speedway.
The team headed to the track with one item to accomplish
during practice, that was to verify the setup put in the car.
That being done, the team prepared the car for the qualifier.
Qualifying was 'old school' with two laps each, quickest lap
recorded.
Eric ran a lap quick enough to be fifth fastest overall.
'A' main action: As a result of qualifying and the inversion, Eric
started on the outside front row.
The green flag flew, and off he went.
Tommy Roe took the early lead in the Suss.net Sportsman A
with JimBob Rogers, Jeff Walbaum, Eric Blackard and Jeff
Webb in tow. Josh Flood spun for a lap 17 caution flag to bunch
up the field. Walbaum took second on lap 25 and was leading on
lap 30, but Roe fought back and took the lead back on lap 31 in
a great battle for the lead. On lap 32, Webb spun for a caution
and Nick Brinlee was sent to the rear. Walbaum had a slight
lead again when he was forced to check-up due to a lapped car.
Flood broke for a lap 37 caution and Walbaum took the win on
the last corner over 2008 champion Roe, Blackard, Rogers and
Webb. Blackard was pushed back to fifth for passing to the
inside on the last restart. Troy Meyer claimed the rookie
champion and Walbaum was quickest in qualifying.
Eric finished the year 2 points out of third place overall for
the season.
